Filling the Gap Australia Didn’t Know It Had

Tanafloc Australia was founded to address a gap in the local market that no one else was filling. While tannin-based coagulants have been used around the world since the early 2000s, Australia — despite being home to native black acacia trees, a rich source of tannins — had never cultivated or extracted this valuable resource for water treatment applications.

With over 30 years of experience in the water industry, our director recognised a growing need for ecological alternatives to conventional treatment chemicals. Yet, no such solution was available in Australia. That’s why we launched Tanafloc Australia: to offer Australian industries an effective, natural option already proven in more than 70 countries worldwide.

To this day, Tanfloc remains the only tannin-based coagulant commercially available in Australia.

Our team is proudly based in Australia, though we were born in Brazil — where we built direct relationships with Tanac, the world’s largest manufacturer of tannin-based products, with almost a century of experience. Tanac has given us their full support and exclusivity to represent Tanfloc products across Australia. Together, we’re offering a solution that works with nature, not against it.

Workers About Us 3

Practical, Science-Driven Solutions for a Circular Water Industry

At Tanafloc Australia, we specialise in natural coagulants for water and wastewater treatment, helping industries reduce their environmental impact while recovering valuable resources from their processes. Our core product, Tanfloc, is a tannin-based coagulant designed to replace conventional metal-based chemicals with a renewable, biodegradable alternative.

With years of experience across Brazil, the USA, Dubai, Europe, and now Australia, our team brings global knowledge to local challenges. We’re a group of skilled process engineers, scientific minds, and highly awarded PhD candidates — ranging from our 20s to 50s — united by a passion for applying science and data to deliver practical outcomes. Whether it’s improving coagulation and flocculation processes, optimising sludge management, or enabling resource recovery from wastewater streams, we make complex problems easier to understand and solve.

Above all, we’re a team of genuine people, committed to improving the environment and delivering exceptional, customised service. We pride ourselves on being accessible, down-to-earth, and keen to both teach and learn from every project and partnership we take on. For us, every client is an opportunity to collaborate, share knowledge, and develop better solutions together.

We currently serve clients throughout Australia and New Zealand, with plans to expand into the broader Asia-Pacific and Southern Asia regions. Our vision is to help reshape the water industry, encouraging the shift towards renewable and ecological treatment solutions. By integrating natural products like Tanfloc, we’re paving the way for circular economy models that not only recover resources but also rethink the chemicals used in treatment processes themselves.
